That time I photographed a dog wedding…

It all started when I moved to Plymouth and was working on getting my name out there as a dog photographer. I was excited to secure a space at Bark in the Park, an annual event put on by the Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to shaking hands and kissing doggies that day, I was running a “Pet Portrait Giveaway.” One of the winners was a young woman named Nancy Richmond, the owner of an adorable scruffy little pup named Benji.

Little did I know that Nancy was at Bark in the Park doing investigative research!

That’s right! She was there to observe the event because she, too, was planning such a festival in her own little town of Lakeville, just a half hour away.

But Nancy’s event came with a twist! She and her dear friend, Paula, thought it would be a hoot if their two dogs dressed up as a bride and groom and had a little wedding ceremony at the event to celebrate their “puppy love.”

I have to tell you that when I heard this, I was taken aback. I don’t consider myself a wedding photographer, but would I make an exception for a…dog wedding?

Needless to say, I couldn’t resist. The day had arrived, and I was amazed at the crowd that had gathered in that sleepy little town. No sooner had I set up my booth when a local news station arrived with a camera crew to interview me about the event.

The next thing I knew, a Boston Globe reporter was getting all the information she could from me on this dog wedding.

The story was featured in the Sunday Globe!

Well I have to say it was a lot of fun. It was one of those days when my cheeks hurt from smiling. We even created a wedding album and framed some wall portraits to commemorate the event. It was a celebration of puppy love and friendship!
